Private Medical Fees

Townhead Surgery is able to provide services that are not funded by the NHS and incur a charge e.g. HGV medicals, completion of reports for private medical insurance and some overseas travel vaccinations.

We are also able to provide some private letters, on request, which contain details and confirm facts that are contained in someone’s personal medical records. These are not part of our NHS core contract and there will therefore be an additional charge for this service.

Townhead Surgery though will NOT undertake any private work that may expose the Practice or its clinicians to vicarious liability.

We will therefore NOT be able to provide letter giving our opinion on a person’s “fitness” to perform specific activities.

These include but are not limited to the following:

  • Fitness to fly (or other form of travel)
  • Clearance for high-risk sports (e.g. mountaineering, skydiving, paragliding)
  • Certification for participation in sporting events (e.g. marathons, triathlons)
  • Scuba Diving medicals
  • Fitness to participate in adventure travels or other extreme sports.

These types of private medical assessment require specialist medical knowledge that fall outside the remit of General Practice. Moreover, issuing a letter or certificate confirming fitness for such activities may expose the GP Surgery liable to legal claim if an adverse event occurred.

A list of services and fees is available at reception. VAT at the current rate is applied to some of these services.
